Location! Location! Location!
Fairwood is located in Prince George’s County on the eastern edge of Washington D.C. known as the “County of Livable Communities.” Prince George’s has a rich 300-year history, which includes being a prosperous tobacco region and the cradle of American thoroughbred racing. In fact, the property on which Fairwood is built once contained a racetrack and training facility owned by former Governor Oden Brown.
For centuries people have settled here because of the close proximity to our Nation’s Capital. The federal government has a significant presence in Prince George’s County with huge installations such as the Air Force, Census Bureau and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center right in our backyard. The County also has the second highest number of tech companies in Maryland and an important incubator initiative to grow small businesses.
While Prince George’s County is a growing metropolitan area, much of the area retains its rural character. A walk through the serene, wooded open areas of Fairwood reminds residents of what the first settlers might have seen more than 300 years ago.
